Artist Statement
Through a series of paintings depicting a typical look into Sunday dinner at my grandparent’s house, I explore themes of relationships, memories, moments of comfort and familial love. Through my artwork I invite viewers to have a glimpse of what it is like to sit across from my cousins, brother, and myself at my grandparents’ dining room table, and to make connections to their own lives and family. My paintings feature a wide range of color and perspectives, and a classical realist style to encapsulate these simple moments from my own memories and life.
Sunday at Six represents the strong connection between my family and me that I cherish deeply and want to invite the world to see. This body of work is my gift for my grandparents and the family they built. They are the reason t heir home is filled with overwhelming love, family, and my fond memories growing up there each weekend.
Sunday at Six expresses the feelings of familial love and comfort through interacting diptych paintings between the grandchildren, and everyday scenes of my grandparents in their home. It would not be Sunday night without my entire family, which includes a tribute to my Uncle Michael who suddenly passed earlier this year, but will forever have a plate prepared for him. I hope the viewer finds an entry to their own life and family through my paintings, and brings emotions of love and comfort as you view Sunday at Six.
